RONALD & SANDRA SCHULTZ 16518 Warwick Detroit, Michigan 48219 - 4044 Joy to the world! the Lord is come; Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room...How? By adoration, acceptance, homage, attentiveness, obedience. As events in the Gulf portend of Christ's second advent (Rev. Winkler in 1972 told me of the current chain of events over oil being the prelude to Armageddon and Jesus' 2nd coming) the good news of Christmas remains "God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself"; we pray that you may know that oneness with God this Christmas 1990. Since last Christmas letter, Sandy and Christine were in Washington D.C. for the April 28th Rally for Life '90. They and more than 500,000 others attested to the belief in the sanctity of all life, even that of the unborn. Sandy's letter about the rally was published nationally! Ron is still in Detroit's Greektown with D.W.S.D. designing on an air compressor building and incinerator feed system. He replaced the electrical service entrance to our home, trimmed up trees, taught boys, put out 6 issues of the Lutherans for Life newsletter. In May, while at Dad's in S. Illinois, Ron started a treehouse there for the boys. Home schooling the boys is not always fun. When it gets too bad, Sandy packs 'em in the car for a field trip. [You've heard of PMS; well, we have PMJ (Paul, Mark, & John), it's kind of like PMS except its with you all the time.] 1990 was a rough year: she visited a geology center, the Yates Cider Mill, Maybury St. Pk., Stoney Creek Nature Center, Bell Isle Aquarium, Pewabic Pottery, Dossin Great Lakes Museum, Dad's office and the People Mover. And in November we all went to Jack Miner's Bird Sanctuary in Ontario to see the geese on their fall migration. We fed the ducks and geese and some ate right out of our hands. Even shy Joy enjoyed this! Ron was a househusband for a week in June while Sandy attended a Campaign College put on by the Republican National Committee. Held at the Ritz Carton, Sandy had a fun week of kissing hubby and the kids good-bye and going to work. It was a great experience, but it was a lot of hours and a LOT of work. Made some new friends from all around the country. And by the end of the week Joy acted like she didn't even know Mommy! (Sandy can now run a campaign for someone with the money to run; without campaign funds, she got 739 votes in the primary and in the general election, lost a race for the position of State Representative - District 1 by less votes than the incumbant governor!) After emptying the sandbox (carrying it shoeload by shoeload into the house!) in a few weeks, the boys dug big holes "for oil" (If we don't fill 'em in soon, the DNR might declare them wetlands and forbid us to build a garage extension there!) before preliminary development efforts in making oil from leaves, pressure and --of course -- water! Joy has joined the brothers at the alchemy of sand in Mark's swimming pool, tho it hasn't turned the water to gold for any of them! The Sunday School went to Jiffy Baking Co. in Chelsea, MI. Everyone received samples, and the boys played "Bakery" everyday the next week. The boys helped paint the garden fence, but it didn't make the garden grow any better than last year. Wish they'd weed it! The raccoon sure did like the corn. Our flowers were best we've had yet. Mark received $1.00 from lecturer Bill Gothard for saying Psalm 100 for him! Since Sandy started buying pump toothpaste instead of tubes, Mark has ceased to decorate the house with it! Now Mark likes breaking rocks and making rock hearts. John, at 5, does very well reading the King James Bible (and anything else he gets his hands on); he's an impressive speller too! He also repaired some neighborhood sidewalks under the tutelage of his dad. Joy at 3 now demands what she wants with words instead of wild screams. Joy pulled the firealarm at Camp Wolverine to start an exciting Bridgewalk weekend. Labor Day Weekend found us once again up at Mackinac for the Bridge Walk. We all joined other Lutherans for Life at Camp Wolverine, then went to the Bridge Monday morning. Ron chauferred and did not walk, but Sandy managed pretty well with 3 boys and Joy in a stroller. There were lots of positive comments on our pro-life message sweatshirts. We saw much greater public sympathy for the pro-life position in 1990; our educational efforts are succeeding! Also, we joined 7000 others for the Lifechain on Woodward October 21. The boys all learned to ride bikes this year! If you see them coming, it's best to get off the sidewalk! They like bicycle hikes, especially when they ended at mulberry trees. Ron often took them biking in the neighborhood (Joy rode in back seat on Dad's bike), Sandy took them to a park with trails once but it took almost as long to load the bikes in the car as they had at the park to ride. We sold the Caprice; we're only a one car family now; but we have 6.5 bikes! Brother John and Mom S now live closer to us with the 12/14/89 opening of I-696 in south Oakland county. Yes, Sandy did take the kids out for a ride that first night. 1990 will stick in our minds as the year Sandy's Dad had a near heart attack (Feb) and Mom V had her hip replacement (April). She's getting around much better thanks to the operation and all the prayers for her. Doctors say that Mom S's cancer tumor is gone; Praise God! As of 12/15, Ron's uncle Ernest is recovering from a pacemaker short-circuit. Mom S and Bro Bill replaced cement around their house and, with help from Karen's Joe, put up a little storage barn. One of Mom & Dad V's rare trips to Michigan was around Dad's Birthday. A chilled out birthday picnic moved from Maxwell park in Royal Oak to Sandy's home. Dad was touched and pleased by the attention and gifts (he should come around more). Then on his actual birthday, Sandy and the boys took him to the Tigers baseball game. First one for the Schultz boys. They saw Jack Morris and the Tigers win!!! Almost all the Vandermark family was in Lansing Sept. 29 for the marriage of Connie Logan's daughter Mindy to Greg Smith. He is in the Navy, but fortunately for the newlyweds, he had just returned from the Persian Gulf before the wedding. Ron & Sandy also saw Lorie Birchard - pianist for the famed album "Sandy and Ron Sing" - tying the knot with Pat. May God fill your 1991 with all peace in believing and a readiness for Christ's second coming. Ron, Sandy, Paul, Mark, John and Joy |
