Schultz Family Christmas Letter 1988

RONALD & SANDRA SCHULTZ

As Christmas 1988 comes, I think of what it was like for the virgin Mary holding the King of Glory -- and her own Savior -- inside her; she willingly received Christ within her; other Jewish girls might have viewed cradling God within oneself as a problem. Indeed you, too, might not want God living in you; but if He's not in your heart, that's where He WANTS to be born this Christmas. Remember that in the mass including the Christmass, the believer receives Christ with the elements. Let's arrange our priorities so that our Christmas celebration centers on Jesus.

The Christmas season is a time when our thoughts turn with thanks to God to the special people God has brought into our lives... May the Light of Jesus' Love fill your hearts this season and always.

And we are thankful for more than friends: Since last Thanksgiving, Mom S was healed of cancer; and God has preserved us all thru another busy year and given us many happy memories of 1988.

Ron did HOUSEwork including removing stumps and treelimbs around the house, fixing on lawn, fences, roof, brickwork, installing garage attic and door opener, insulation, kitchen faucet, electric outlets and lights. He was VP of ADE - engineer's union, and worked the polls for Proposal A to end tax funding of abortion and Detroit school board reform (for a change he was pleased with election results). He continued as announcer of the Lutheran Pulpit broadcast on WEXL, 1340 AM, at 5:30 pm Sundays.

Sandy and Joy went to Grand Rapids for the state Republican Convention to launch Joy's campaign for the Presidency in 2028. Sandy walked the Mackinac Bridge for life on Labor Day; Joy went along for the ride in mom's backpack.

Boys Paul, Mark, and John enjoyed wave pools this wonderful hot summer; but the day it was 104 they built a playhouse with Dad. They had a lot of fun with mud this year ("mortar"); they even built a lookout tower 5' tall with bricks and mud.

Paul memorized the 10 commandments and his brothers with a little help can say them too. Mark helped daddy with plumbing and electrical work. Toe-headed John helped set posts for fence and glass block around furnace air entry. Joy walked Nov 30th, 5 days late for her 1st birthday. 5 yr old Mark continues to display creativity as he develops 101 uses for toothpaste (one is to highlight wall decor). Paul has 101 ideas for making money -- most of them building houses (bird, play, real).

We traveled again to the family memory spots Ossineke, MI for 2nd Kauer family reunion July 9 (baptizing our Joy in the Little North Creek the following day) and Lawrenceville, IL for Dad and Mom V's 40th Anniversary, June 19.

On a gorgeous October weekend, our children went with their teacher from Warwick Hills Christian Academy on a geological hiking field trip in Michigan's UP to study precambrian rock. They liked the rocks, but loved the motel pool!

Bro Bill obtained a copy of Schultz genealogical history and excited cousin Cathy Blight by supplying a copy to her.

Ron's nephew Joe and his bride Leslee had son Joseph Andrew Swafford IV on March 13. (the 4 generations are known as J A, Big Joe, Little Joe, & Joey) Big Joe returned to work Nov 15, after 5 months off.

Ron's Aunt Elsie after many months on a bed of sickness, recovered (praise God) and was able to greet people at the funeral of her husband Charlie who died August 11, and later to go north with Mom and Bro Bill to see her sister Anna, whose husband Alvin Miller died February 4.

Sandy's Godchild Lisa wed Greg Criger 10/14. Ron's friend Mark Dixon married 9/3. Ron's cousin Forrest Convery also tied the knot 5/28/88.

Sandy's sister Cindy's -- the MSU fan -- ecstasy at getting the chance to buy Rose Bowl tickets turned to despair when THE University of Michigan got the bowl bid. Bro John will join her at the Rose Bowl, but he'll enjoy some of the west's finest scenery in its winter time glory on his way there and back. Ah, Yosemite in the snow.

Donna has landed a job with DuPont near Kankakee. Baby Carole favors cousin Paul, but took an instant dislike to Joy when she bit Carole's finger.

Judy works for the Union League Club in Chicago and has fallen in love with the Windy City. She went to Marquette with P M & J and showed them the sights!

As we look forward to the Savior's second advent may the year of our Lord 1989 be for you and yours a year of great good, grateful faith, and grand hope.

Ron, Sandy, Paul, Mark, John, and Joy
